Well Christmas came and went in a welter of superhuman activity - on Zolanta it was a very busy time with sellers pulling out all the stops to ensure customers got their goods ! So now its all over what next ! Zolanta has increased its members massively over the last months and we are up to almost a thousand members in the Forums- this of course can only be good for buyers and sellers alike, bigger range of goods and better prices attracting shoppers !

Apart from the usual lively toing and froing on Zolanta we have a special mission at the moment - one of our biggest supporters lives in Manila and his partner's family have been devastated by the recent typhoon, they have lost everything, house and contents left only with the clothes they were wearing at the time - pictured above is the baby of the family

We are, I'm afraid on the countdown to Christmas - I know thats not what you want to hear but its a fact !
In preparation to that we have had a site upgrade which, unusually for these things, went very well and hardly noticeable I think, thanks to our wonderful techies.

Well summer is, I believe, nothing but a fantasy - days are cold and nights are dark so the only way to cheer ourselves up is to shop and shop online !

Zolanta has now reached the dizzy heights of 712 members signed up as site users - we are thrilled that new people are coming in everyday - makes all the hard work worth it !
On that note I just have to mention sweets and memories - all those sweets you can remember from your schooldays - shrimps - blackjacks - fruit salad - tootie frooties they are all there ! I am just about to place an order to take in to work colleagues and gains some brownie points - brilliant !

The biggest suprise this week is of course the announcement of the closure of one of the UK's alternative auction sites - venues for online sellers are getting fewer by the week which is a real shame - Zolanta, I am glad to say goes from strength to strength - new members daily and sales rising which is just what we want to see - I would like to see more people and posts on the forums mind you, people dont seem to realise that in terms of SEO posts are picked up by the search engines in the same way as listings and meta tags so the more posts the more visits !

Summer is coming and is going to be every two days in between torrential rain storms - Kiddygifts has listed some lovely outdoor games like this Frog Skittles and Duck Skittles -

This is fun too a giant compendium of games for out doors

some lovely pet accessories from PinkDiva - activity tunnels and this brilliant tent for your rabbit or guinea pig

In fact the Pink Diva store is a treasure trove of all sorts of interesting and useful items - electronic,sports and leisure, pc games and consoles and fashion - check it out

Getting beneath the skin of Zolanta - fresh and lively it certainly is so here are a few more stores to whet your appetite - Whichcraft is a beautifully named store - belongs to a very creative seller who makes beautiful cards at beautiful prices - she is also into scrapbooking and has some really lovely pages and covers for you which I know she uses herself. Whichcraft also enjoys knitting and if you are really lucky you may find a few hand crafted designs for sale in the store - at the moment there is a pair of absolutly gorgeous baby bootees designed and made specially for zolanta - check it out ! I also found these striking flower portraits in black and white and mounted on black to form a beautiful greetings card - I think they are very classy !

Mills Classic Motors is another little gem tucked away - all sorts of lovely quirky things like this lovely little Mini Cooper money box or these fab VW campervan mugs ideal gifts for car nuts !
some useful stuff there too like Haynes manuals - anything car basically - I bought some lovely mounted photos they are great

Please dont forget as well Talis Chooks - a charity store raising money to rehome battery hens which would otherwise go to slaughter - Barbie outfits to celebrate Barbie's 5oth birthday and other bits which make ideal gifts

Wood by Whitaker is a particular favourite on Zolanta - this guy is seriously talented making beautiful tealight holders and candle holders out of beautiful wood - he also has some lovely wood sculpture listed in the store which would enhance any room - of course Whitaker also makes fabulous chopping boards - I bought two as Christmas gifts and the quality is unbelievable - cheese boards also go like hot cakes check him out

One of the things that saddens me about modern life is that youngsters and older people dont read as they used to, personally I learnt to read at a very early age, 4, I think and books are a huge part of my life, I just couldnt imagine not reading every day. As a child I read everything, labels papers wrapping just everything and always always had my nose stuck in a book. I am the same now, any spare moment I am reading either newspapers, which I read every word of, or a book.

The credit crunch is really starting to bite now and what with the weather in the UK this week things are a tad depressing -

However all the news and analysts say that online selling is holding up well and sales are booming for those sellers listing and taking advantage of the situation.
As far as Zolanta is concerned sales are going well with most sellers clocking up sales this last week !

I bought a printer myself from one of our new listers Cushty Deals and a cracking bargain it was too ! Great comms fast delivery and of course he supplies the inks ! brilliant !

Penny Auctions in cahoots with our friends on Pheebay continue to be popular and although you may have missed our fabulous Valentine Pamper Basket which was featured this week dont despair as Heavenly Soaps have made up more that are listed in her store so dont miss out on spoiling your loved one check em out now !

Following a consensus among the participating sellers in the Pheebay forums, it has been decided that the Penny Auctions Pheebay.com promotion will start in earnest on Sunday 4th January 2009.

The initial period of five weeks during which we have run these penny start auctions across a range of eBay alternative auction sites, the feedback has been positive from the participating sellers. We are pleased with the increase in views and in items sold and many of the eBay alternative auction sites have enjoyed a boost to their membership.

As a participating seller myself, I have found an overall increase in traffic to my listings and, most satisfyingly, a number of sales to brand new customers on the site

After discussion in the General Auction Site Chat forum on Pheebay.com, the participating sellers have reached a decision to start this promotion in earnest on 4th January 2009. In the few days running up to that date I expect to put a number of Pheebay members’ auctions into preview on my Penny Auctions Squidoo lens as they are announced.

I also hope to welcome new sites and sellers onto the list of participants. If you are interested then come and join us in the Pheebay.com. It doesn’t matter which eBay alternative auction site you sell on, nor does it matter what kind of items you sell, as long as they are suitable for any eyes - in other words, no porn - and you are prepared to list an item for a 1p/1c auction start price with no reserve to run for seven days, Sunday to Sunday.

In more recent years the maker of Barbie, Mattel, designed and sold a wide range of Barbie dolls aimed specifically at collectors. The range includes porcelain versions, vintage reproductions and Barbie as a range of characters from televison series such as the Munsters and Star Trek.

There are also dolls depicting Barbie with different ethnic identities and styles.

Barbie will celebrate her 50th anniversary in 2009, and Mattel plans a new reproduction of the original 1959 Barbie doll.

I'm always looking at auction sites online, I wouldn't like to think I might be missing out on something, but there are so many sites out there, where do you begin? Well, don't go around them in alphabetical order or you might miss out on a gem of a site, Zolanta.com.

Zolanta launched in 2007 and, though initially it was well supported by sellers, the site suffered a major hiccup and was offline while a server move was completed and problems ironed out.

Zolanta.com. has been quietly back up and running since April 2008 and is now very much open for business.

From a browser's point of view the site runs smoothly and very fast. Google Checkout is fully integrated alongside Paypal, a real plus in my view to have the alternative whether buying or selling. It's also an advantage that the forums are open to view without having to register on the site. Of particular interest to sellers will be the Working Lunch forum and Zolanta has a management which encourages suggestions from its users for improvements to the site.

Everything required of an online auction site is there on Zolanta.com but there is something more.

Zolanta is a brand new auction site with an emphasis on friendliness and quality. We have attracted a variety of new sellers listing a diverse range of goods and I hear that we are going to have a seller of all things to do with pets which will be great including some herbal remedies for dogs - we have some great cds and dvds listed not to mention becoming well known for crafting and gift items.

One of the great things about Zolanta is that most sellers come on to the forums and introduce themselves we have some great discussions and lighthearted conversation so we know that they are genuine folk, no scammers here !
